The Security Intelligence Service has interviewed a former Chinese diplomat about claims that Chinese agents kidnapped a woman from Auckland in 2005.
Chen Yonglin, a former Chinese Embassy staffer in Australia who defected that year, made the allegation in Wellington on Wednesday.
An SIS spokeswoman would say nothing other than to confirm the interview had happened.
