Weta Workshop's Sir Richard Taylor will design and create a commemorative piece for the British High Commission to be installed next year in New Zealand's National War Memorial Park which is being redeveloped in Wellington.
Sir Richard joined British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond at Parliament this morning for the announcement.
Mr Hammond also took part in a ceremony in which a bronze plaque was handed to Speaker David Carter carries the names of 16 soldiers from NZ who were awarded the Victoria Cross during the First World War.
Mr Carter will hold on to it until it is installed in the upgraded Cenotaph near Parliament which will reopen in April before the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day.
Britain announced last year it would give similar commemorative plaques to 11 countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, India, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Ukraine, and the United States.
