Prominent Maori leader Sir Graham Latimer will be farewelled at a funeral service this weekend.
Whanau and friends have started to gather in Pamapuria, south of Kaitaia, where Sir Graham's tangi is being held at Te Paatu Marae.
A final farewell service will be held there on Saturday morning.
In a notice in the Herald today, his family paid tribute to a "loved husband, father and father-in-law and loved papa to all his mokopuna."
Sir Graham died on Tuesday following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 90.
