An exhibition is set to open at Auckland Museum this morning detailing the life and achievements of Sir Edmund Hillary.
It's nearly 60 years since Sir Edmund and Tenzing Norgay scaled Mt Everest.
The exhibition will focus on a number of aspects of Sir Edmund's life, from his ascent of Mt Everest to his philanthropic work in Nepal.
His son Peter Hillary hopes the exhibition will inspire young New Zealanders.
He says it just shows when someone breaks through a barrier, it sends a message to everyone else on the planet that it can be done.
