Sir Brian Lochore says he's not sure whether to be honoured or embarrassed that Masterton's No1 grandstand bears his name.
The former All Black captain unveiled the plaque for the Sir Brian Lochore Stand at Trust House Memorial Park on Thursday night as the crowds packed in to enjoy a Hurricanes versus Chiefs development squad match, showcased by the $2.1 million new stadium lights and artificial turf.
The grandstand was opened in 1963, the same year Sir Brian was selected to the All Blacks.
Sir Brian also officially opened the artificial turf, cutting a ribbon held by youngsters Tui Dugan and Stormy Huirama, representing football and rugby respectively.
Hurricane supporters visibly backed the night game concept, with plenty of flags and merchandise - and warm clothing - lending some fan fervour to the near-full grandstand.
