The Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand, has been admitted to Auckland Hospital with a chest infection.
Official secretary Niels Holm said Sir Anand was taken to hospital from Government House in Auckland this morning. An ambulance was not called.
Sir Anand had been resting with a chest infection for a couple of days, but his cough worsened overnight and he was taken to hospital as a precaution, Mr Holm said.
Mr Holm said Sir Anand's hospitalisation did not affect the performance of his constitutional duties, however some of his community engagements over the next few days might be cancelled.
