Sinking boaties rescued

The occupants of a sinking runabout have been rescued off Auckland this morning.

The 6-metre speed boat started taking on water near Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The Coastguard says the three people on board were bailing out when help arrived, but the boat was still sinking.

A Coastguard vessel helped pump the vessel out and it's now been towed to safety.
