Singapore honours former NZ defence chief

Singapore has honoured New Zealand's recently retired chief of defence with its highest military award.

Former Air Marshal Ferguson received the Distinguished Service Order from Singaporean President Sellapan Rama Nathan.

The award recognised his contribution in forging defence ties between the New Zealand Defence Force and Singapore Armed Forces, defence spokeswoman Danielle Coe said.

Former Air Marshal Ferguson stpped down last month after four years as Chief of Defence.
