Featherston's new dairy store construction on Fitzherbert St will likely obscure a small nod to a past refreshment stop.
The adjoining verandah at 25 Fitzherbert St has a tearoom sign which Featherston historian Pat Flynn believes dates back to the 1940s.
In a Wairarapa Midweek article in October, Mrs Flynn described how those tearooms were run by a Mrs Barbara Clark and her sister Mrs McGill in the 1960s.
The tearooms site then became a dairy run by a Mrs Alice Phipps.
The new dairy, which should be complete in three weeks, will be run by Hiren and Nilam Patel, owners of the nearby Rimutaka Liquor Store.
