Sign company sends message to errant motorist

A trio of Auckland signwriters have used the tools of their trade to get a clever message across to an errant driver who hogged their parking space.

The Blink Boys sign company sent an unavoidable message to a dog walker who parked in the private off-street car park of their Eden Terrace premises.

Tired of people using their precious park without permission, the business owners tried looking for the car's owner before taking action.

But rather than calling a tow truck the neighbourly spirited signwriters plied their trade as a polite but direct warning.

"Hey m8! U can't park here!" they plastered over the car's back window.

They don't think the motorist will make the same mistake twice.

"Safe to say it was the first and last time that this Eden Terrace dog walker used the Blink Boy's car park for his own personal use," they posted on Facebook.

Blink Boys co-owner Tim Slane said people parking in their space was an ongoing problem but taking this type of action was kinder than being towed.

"We were trying to locate the man for quite a while," he said.

"We don't like to tow people so we looked around the park and saw a man walking a dog.

"We thought, 'he's not coming back any time soon' and we blocked off his car with cones and put a message on his car."

Slane said they were too busy laughing when he came back to interact with him.

"He seemed confused at the time but we think he'll probably laugh about it later."

The letters were easily removed, he said.

In the meantime a fresh "no parking'' sign was going up in front of the shared premise.
