Repainted with the same mistake, says our reader who spotted this in Galatea, Bay of Plenty.
Some things are sent to dry you
"My stepson and his wife are busy doctors and mentioned needing a dryer before winter," writes Keith from Parnell. "A few days later stepson rang me to ask if I had sent them a dryer which was outside their front door when they got home. I am known to do a few surprising things such as this, being the nice old bugger I am, but no it wasn't me, I said. They didn't believe me. Three days later I got another call from them recounting the embarrassment of having the company arrive at their home to ask if a dryer not belonging to them had arrived, and then having to help with the total dismantling from the wall brackets and repacking of the 'stolen' dryer ..."
Try consulting my CV, philistines
A reader sends her sympathies to Nureete, whose job application was rejected by ASB almost as soon as he applied. "I, too, received a hasty, generic rejection email from an Auckland city consultancy, despite my experience being an exact match for the role," writes a reader. "Puzzled, I rang the consultancy and was told that because there were over 120 applicants, they ran CVs and letters through 'some scanning software' - mine was rejected because this software 'did not recognise sufficient key words'. When I asked the consultant to actually read my application, not only was I told I was probably the best-qualified applicant, I got an immediate interview with them as well as an interview time with the client ... This is unacceptable and job seekers need to make sure their application is considered by a human being."
Gateway to banking money
Peter from Westmere writes: "Why do they top up my Northern Gateway toll-road account by $10 when it falls below $10? I now have credit for nine trips which will take me about two years to do. But when I have done five trips they will take another $10. How much of people's money do they have in the bank? And if they can top it up by $10 when it reaches $8 why can't they top it up by $4 automatically when it reaches $0, which would mean I was ready for the next return trip?"
