New germ-sharing hotspot: a Taupo restaurant offers something extra.
Life in the liveable city
"When Mercer ranked Auckland third in terms of Quality of Living in 2015, they must have either been drunk or else Len Brown bribed them," writes Chris. "I went with a friend to see a movie on Wednesday night. $36 for two adults. A beer? $11.50. Parking for around four hours in a dirty, vandalised Wilson car park? $26. Then the icing on the cake was a 20-minute detour at 45km/h through deepest, darkest Swanson, Kelston and New Lynn because the Northwestern Motorway seems to be closed every night from 10pm until mid-2017. And now that I'm finally home, I get to listen to roadworks all night long. Yay Auckland!"
Helpful etiquette for awards events
How to applaud ... study celebrities at any big awards show. The correct way is just slightly to your left, about chest height. Never clap in front of your own face and you sure don't want to clap in front of someone else's.
Don't call it a purse ... that term is reserved for any clutch, tote, satchel costing under $100. A purse is something that is relatively cheap. A handbag is more expensive. You should never ask a high-end store for their purse department. They don't have one.
Where to sit on the way to the event ... the power seat in any limo is to the back and the right. That's the one you should leave for your boss. The next in line gets the seat to the left, while the junior person usually gets the middle. (Source: Joy Weaver, How to Be Socially Savvy in All Situations.)
