New Girl Guide biscuits not a patch on the old ones
"Is it just me or is this year's batch of Girl Guide biscuits the worst ever?" asks Dave Orchard. "The large plain ones appear to have become victim to some sort of food police - their taste now more akin to chalk. They definitely contain less sugar and the shortening is just weird. What happened to the delicious, more-ish, sweet morsels of bygone days? We always bought up large and happily supported the cause. Memo to Girl Guide powers-that-be: We are not fooled. I implore you to revert to the old recipe - you'll sell a LOT more."
Lennon's bloodied glasses used in gun-control debate
Yoko Ono has tweeted a picture of the bloodied glasses John Lennon was wearing when he was killed, to support stricter gun control in America. Ono also tweeted: "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980."
Cheap beer? Yeah, right!
Bruce from Mt Albert writes: "Here'a Tui billboard you'll never see: 'Beer sure is varied and reasonably priced at Eden Park.' The brewery sponsor is taking full advantage of the captive audience at the cricket test by charging punters $8 for a small plastic bottle of pretty ordinary brown stuff. It's Tui, of course - the beer that provides everyone's favourite billboard. That sort of price is what you pay in top city bars and restaurants for premium beers.
It's different for a man ...
Teri James filed a lawsuit against San Diego Christian College because it fired her for being pregnant and unmarried - a violation of specific employee rules. She said the firing was illegal gender discrimination because her job was quickly offered to the next-most-qualified candidate - James' fiance, who was openly cohabiting with James all along and is the baby's father.
