A reader from Whangarei writes: "On the night of an ABs v SA (televised from South Africa) test, the back door is left unlocked for partying sons when they return home and mum and dad go to bed. First son arrives home and finds the TV on and a stranger asleep on the couch. He assumes the sleeper is a friend of second son and sits beside the sleeper to watch the rugby where he, too, goes to sleep. Second son arrives home and finds his brother sleeping alongside a total stranger. Parents are woken to find out who the stranger is. No one knows so the police are called and they recognise the stranger, still asleep, as being a well-known burglar."
Blast from the past
A reader writes: "When I was growing up in the 70s Bee Gees songs were strong on the 1ZB playlist. However, my Dad could never understand why their song 'One Legged Woman' was so popular. Now, every time I hear More than a Woman I just have to sing along with Dad's interpretation, it's much more fun."
Lana writes: "To the cyclist who looked like he was sideswiped by a truck on Wednesday night at the Manukau Rd/Greenlane intersection; he was totally in the wrong and did not move over for you at all, I have the truck's details, please contact Sideswipe if you want to contact me.
Westhaven walkway signage causing confusion
"The new Westhaven promenade is a great feature but the joint Waterfront Auckland and Westhaven Marina welcome sign is somewhat confusing for what is essentially a pedestrian walkway. Reading the symbols left to right it looks as though permitted activities on the promenade include walking (OK), cycling (OK), dog-walking (OK), boating (eh?), no swimming (really?), wearing lifejackets (eh?), no diving (OK), holding hands (nice), driving cars (really?) and building rock piles (double eh?)."
Tour going swimmingly
Dunedin rock 'n' roll icon David Kilgour is playing at the Chicks Hotel, Port Chalmers with Sam Hunt and The Heavy 8s tonight. He arrived in Dunedin as the waters were rising - this was his Facebook update: "The Leith looks about 10 feet higher than it should be ... last night Gen, Sam and I had a mad drive from airport to Port Chalmers ... just plains nuts! Sam turned to me at one point 'Are we floating?' ... Me - 'I'm not sure' ... Sam - 'Keep moving' and me thinking this is stupid, we shouldn't be doing this. It's dangerous! ... rain and nothin' any friend or fisherman can do!" (The gig moves north with June 6, Sherwood, Queenstown, June 26, San Fran, Wellington, June 27, Kings Arms, Auckland.)
