The birth of Prince George has been a huge boon for many manufacturers, but one company lost out after it produced 5000 commemorative plates celebrating the arrival of a "Royal Princess". The unnamed firm supposedly had a tip-off from a royal insider that the Duchess of Cambridge was to give birth to a girl, and designed plates with the message: "To celebrate the birth of the Royal Princess".
Famously tough chef has a soft centre
What is Gordon Ramsay really like? This answer was submitted to Quora.com by Adam Rauscher. "I worked with him on several episodes of Kitchen Nightmares. I was a lowly PA, so his treatment of me speaks a lot. First, he rode in the front seat of his car, next to the driver. This says something about him not being high and mighty. During my first three days, he would give me a brief nod whenever he passed. He knew I was part of the team, but PAs come and go. He's not going to waste a lot of time on me. On my second episode, also three days, he would engage people around me in friendly banter. He's the type of guy who makes fun of people, but with a broad smile on his face so you know he's joking. He also joined us in tossing around a football during a slow point. By my third episode, I ranked a "hello" and smile. On the last day of the third episode, just before the restaurant opened, a producer pointed out my untied shoe. Being bone tired, I pulled out a chair to sit and tie it. Gordon suddenly shouted, "What are you doing?! That's it! Fired!" I looked up in shock and he immediately laughed at me. It felt awesome. Famous people are expected to be "on". It uses up energy to be charming. For temporary employees, he was polite, but didn't spend a lot of time with us. As he grew to know and trust us, he became warm and open. He's a little gruff and sarcastic, but a lot of fun ..."
Pumped up over petrol prices
"Does Waiheke Island have the most expensive petrol anywhere in New Zealand?" asks Tony. "Just one hour by vehicle ferry from Pakuranga, Waihekians are paying $2.50 a litre at Z and $2.52 at BP. (Gasoline Alley have the best deal at $2.44). At about 25 cents more than Auckland, a 50,000 litre tanker will make another $12,500 for the main service stations per load, less freight costs. I don't think Sealink freight prices are that high and the truck doesn't have to run its engine on the boat. Who else has prices anything like this?"
Dance to keep warm? (Via Reddit).
"I recently escaped the Auckland winter with a break in Rarotonga," writes Annie. "The weather there was blissfully warm - high 20s. Imagine my surprise when I saw this sign outside the chemist."
