Part Maori, part Elvis, Jeremy has been fascinated by these two images over the past few weeks. He writes: "They are from Elvis' movie Paradise, Hawaiian Style which was filmed (in part) at the Polynesian Centre in Honolulu in the 1960s. I was talking to a fellow in Helensville who runs the junk shop in the old cinema. He mentioned an old Maori woman who came to the Elvis in Geyserland exhibition in Rotorua in the mid-90s, who said she was in the movie with him. So who are the ladies in the photos? Are any of them still alive?"
Lovesick for chickens
An outbreak of salmonella in the US has been partly attributed to people kissing and cuddling live poultry. During four recent outbreaks, which is transferred from chickens, hens and ducks to humans, 181 people have become infected. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said: "Eighty-two of the 95 ill people interviewed reported contact with live poultry in the week before their illness. They added: "Ill people reported purchasing live poultry to produce eggs or meat, or to keep as pets. Many reported bringing the live poultry into their homes, and others reported kissing or cuddling with the live poultry. (Source: The Mirror)
Overreaction to driver's phone brain-fade
A reader writes: "To the truck driver who was behind me as we got off the Northwestern motorway at Motat on Tuesday, and who yelled abuse at me for delaying his journey through the lights. As I said when I got out of my car, you are 100 per cent right, I was looking at my phone and I apologise. It's not something I normally do, but I was trying to manage my job and check on my 11-year-old at home (school holidays are the worst). I was in the wrong. And you were right. But you might want to have a little think about how aggressive and persistent you were in your condemnation. You scared me and my toddler."
