This Valentine's Day prank classified ad was published in the Launceston Examiner in Tasmania. Jodie and Alex work at the newspaper which is why it turned out so well.
Play the game, you guys
Sports Illustrated likes bikini models, but sportswomen aren't so popular. Checking the magazine's cover archive, blogger Jason Kottke counted the covers featuring active female athletes out of 65 issues each year. He only needed one hand: in 2013 there were none, in 2012 there was one - the US women's gymnastics team. In 2011, also just one cover - Hope Solo. In 2010 three female athletes were on the cover (Serena Williams, Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso), in 2009 back to zilch. "And ESPN the Magazine isn't any better," he says. "Most of the female athletes on their covers over the past five years are naked. Well, except for this one of the incredibly talented skier Lindsey Vonn with her face photoshopped on to Sharon Stone's body in the leg-uncrossing scene from Basic Instinct." (Source: Kottke.org)
Safe as money in the bank
Matthew was surprised when he got a replacement debit card from ANZ that "not only do these cards no longer need to be activated by phone or in a bank but the 'ready-to-use' card is already set up with Pay Wave so any letter thief has the most hassle-free way of stealing my money in handy $80 transactions! Anyone else think this is bad security?"
Sochi so condescending
A reader writes: "Have people watched the Sochi Winter Olympics highlights on Prime TV at 6pm? Where is the show coming from? Has anyone noticed how the narrators speak as if the show is made for an ESOL audience? Great for English language learners, but just a wee bit patronising for native speakers."
