The new statue at Massey University Albany is raising eyebrows in the local community. Chickens are a symbol of the area because of Albany's history of free-range chooks at Kell Park. One reader described it as "sultry". "The long arm of Tegel sponsorship," quipped another reader. "What message is it supposed to send? Students of Massey, you will work at KFC for the next seven years to repay only half of your student loan. Worship the golden wing!" says one RedditNZ user. Another claimed, "I think art is important, but maybe not a gigantic slimy-looking piece of uncooked chicken. I feel like I'd catch salmonella just from looking in its general direction. I'd love to know how much they paid for it."
