The new statue at Massey University Albany is raising eyebrows in the local community. Chickens are a symbol of the area because of Albany's history of free-range chooks at Kell Park. One reader described it as "sultry". "The long arm of Tegel sponsorship," quipped another reader."What message is it supposed to send? Students of Massey, you will work at KFC for the next seven years to repay only half of your student loan. Worship the golden wing!" says one RedditNZ user. Another claimed, "I think art is important, but maybe not a gigantic slimy-looking piece of uncooked chicken. I feel like I'd catch salmonella just from looking in its general direction. I'd love to know how much they paid for it."

A reader on why renting is a lesser option in New Zealand. "I thought I would share that our landlord, after five years of us being here, put the house we rent on the market at the start of December, meaning we get to spend our Christmas packing, making time to allow people through the house, finding a new place, shifting, cleaning the old house and then, after Christmas, unpack, sort out Sky, internet, power companies, etc. Fa la friken la ..."
A group of Christmas revellers were partying on a boat on the Yarra River in Melbourne when it was stopped by Water Police for a routine check. They found the boat was operating without the correct liquor licensing. The boat was full of off-duty police officers from a suburban station.

Missing the point, design nerds on Twitter have snarked at the typeface - the font Comic Sans. (Via Dangerous Minds)
