Seen on Manukau Rd, Pukekohe. It is to be hoped that brides-to-be show some discernment when choosing a groom, even if - as this board claimed - they do excel.
Wanted: Toenail-proof shoe
Gina writes, "I'm a huge fan of the Asics Kayano shoe and it is the only brand I buy, but I was disappointed when my recent pair that I've had for a year starting ripping at the front on one shoe where the mesh is. I haven't had this problem before with all my other Asics so I sent them back for a repair or exchange, only to be told that the rip is due to my toenail and therefore they won't repair/exchange. I thought it was amazing that they could come to that conclusion without having inspected my feet. My toenails aren't exactly ginsu knives, and if toenails could do that much damage, I thought that they'd at least take that into consideration when creating these shoes that retail at around $300. Can anybody suggest a brand to cater for my ginsu-knived toes, please?"
Mils, you're Willie Hyena now
PJ writes, "To me, the rugby commentators have always made the name Muliaina sound like Willie Hyena. So that's who Mils is to us now - Willie Hyena. Sorry Mils, not your fault, blame the commentators."
Asian tongue-twist
Another reader says, "Many years ago I worked in a small department of five. Two of us were Asian. The receptionist rang and asked if we had a new Chinese worker as someone was asking for Cho En Lai. No, perhaps they wanted Joanne Lye. A friend, Lee Wylie, is sometimes referred to as Lee Wah Lee."
Week-old Lotto scam
Graham had this experience while buying a Lotto ticket. "On purchasing a Lucky Dip on a Sunday for the following Saturday, the seller gave me a ticket which she selected from a small stack by the machine. I thought this was funny and decided to check the date only to find that it was for the previous Saturday's draw. Were these tickets returned for checking or had they printed too many for the rush on the previous Saturday night? Now I ask them to print the ticket each time." Wonder how many other people have been caught in this scam?
