"This is the problem with having an Aussie company reporting NZ news," writes Aditya Tulsian. "All volcanoes sound the same to them, I guess."
Hearts of gold
Giving away gold: At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, US swimmer Anthony Ervin won gold in the 50m freestyle. He later put his medal on eBay and gave the $17,101 it earned to victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Polish swimmer Otylia Jedrzejczak made it clear before the 2004 Athens Games that any golds she won would be donated to charity. Her 200m butterfly medal went for more than $80,000 and benefited a Polish charity that helps kids with leukaemia. "I don't need the medal to remember," she said. "I know I'm the Olympic champion. That's in my heart." And US ice hockey star Mark Wells sold his 1980 gold to help pay for medical costs related to a rare genetic disease that damaged his spinal cord. He sold the medal to a private collector, who sold it for $310,700. (Source: Mental Floss.com)
Motoring monotony
Is it just me? Mitchell wonders if anyone else has noticed how monochromatic our roads and car parks have become. "It's all a sea of white, black and silver cars, with just the occasional blue and red for relief!"
