"The 5-year-old starts back at school after a break and tells us there will soon be a 'teacher-lonely day'," writes Michael. "When pressed on the subject he explained that happened when the children stayed home that day and the teachers would be lonely at the schoolwithout them."
Listen to the nag, Jack
Robert writes: "My parents were driving through the West Coast with another couple and every time they stopped somewhere, their female friend would say, "handbrake Jack, keys Jack". They thought this was a bit too much naggy, back-seat driving from Jack's wife until one time, Dad and Jack drove off somewhere, without their wives. At their destination they got out of the car, which promptly rolled down the hill. They ran after it but couldn't get in to stop it because the doors were locked, with the keys inside."
Jeanette of Kingsland writes: "Fifty-one years ago - I remember exactly as I was very pregnant with my now 50-year-old daughter - I was walking along Portage Rd, New Lynn and a car stalled on the rail lines. I dashed to help push it off, could hear the train coming, car wouldn't move, and I said, "have you left it in gear?" Yes! It was a happy ending though as we pushed the car clear just in time."
Missing a lot of keys?
Found: A substantial set of keys in Albany on August 10 at the Bush Rd/William Pickering Drive roundabout. "My partner managed to dodge traffic to pick them up off the road. Someone will be in a panic because of losing a considerable number of keys - the collection of 21 keys contain master keys for various locks and some have various key tags stating what they are for." Contact Sideswipe if you think they are yours.
Read the signs properly, people
Trevor is wrong about Onewa Road being a clearway from 4pm, says Auckland Transport's Mark Hannan. "It is correct to say the road westbound is a T3 from 4pm but it is a Clearway between 3 and 4pm." So despite being somewhat convoluted, the tow-aways are legit and those who park in the area have now be schooled.
