Handy parenting tips
What are some common mistakes parents make raising their children? asks quora.com. "I think not taking pleasure in your children just as they are is very destructive," replies Cyra Lea Greystocking. "I always felt my parents were trying to improve upon me ... The best thing I do with my kids is spend lots of unstructured time with them. Just talking to each other or doing an activity together like gardening, walks, cooking, etc. I think just the feeling that your parents feel sheer joy from spending time with you is really important. My parents were good people but they were perpetually distracted ... we were always moving or in the midst of some type of crisis. I think just letting my kids grow up in the same place without moving all over the place chasing happiness is the best thing I've given them. That and being available for them without being overbearing or controlling."
Stripper school bus
"My daughter attends Murray's Bay Intermediate and catches a bus to school provided by The Party Bus Company," writes a parent. "The kids frequently travel on what they call the stripper bus, which is complete with blacked out windows and a pole in the centre of the bus with seats circled around it."
Couple's dog causes a stink
A reader writes: "To the couple wearing the leather Outback-style hats, walking the alsatian-type dog with a withered right rear leg, thanks for letting it empty its bowels on the footpath outside Subway Takapuna on Sunday around 12.45pm! It was nice of you to stand and watch, then look around to see if anyone had seen, then shrug your shoulders and walk off, leaving poo on the footpath for other people to walk in."
