Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of two cattle inhumanely slaughtered on the West Coast.
A farmer found the butchered animals on his Ahaura property north of Greymouth.
Acting Senior Sergeant Allyson Ealam said the offender cut off the legs of the cattle and left them to die.
She described the crime as sick and inhumane.
If the culprit is convicted they could face up to 12 months in prison.
