Siblings shooting for an expansion

Brother and sister Craig Tyer and Vicky Gallon are planning on giving their paintball business a real shot.

The duo started Borderlandz Paintball in 2011, using spare land on their grandfather's farm on Belvedere Rd in Carterton.

The land is a mixture of flats and a steep hill, which is generally avoided during warfare, according to Mr Tyer.

Tyres and wooden blockades for the set-up were sourced over many months, with many of the paintball obstacles being donated to the pair.

The siblings are now set to expand their operation into another of their grandfather's paddocks.

They plan to use the nearby paddock for a more complex paintball set-up, which will include a 4.8m windbreak, trenches, a fort area, a "speed ball" area and many more props and obstacles. The area is about 200 metres by 100 metres.

Mr Tyer said they wanted a paintball space which is challenging but "family friendly" so children can have birthday parties in safety - although the pair say they are still keen on hosting the standard stag dos.

The new course will turn the weekend operation into a fulltime job for the pair and is expected to be complete within two months.
