Shutterbugs on show

The quality is higher and the talent is obvious, say the judges of this year's Masterton Primary Schools Photography Competition.

More than 150 photos from eight schools featured at a prize-giving at Masterton Intermediate School on Wednesday night, with Alexa Wishart, Douglas Park School, taking home the supreme award.

Alexa, who had also won the year 3/4 living category and placed third in the non-living category, photographed a group of curious cows.

She said they her cousins' cows on Norfolk Rd and had "just come up to her".

She won an A3-sized print of her work, framed by photographer Pete Nikolaison.

Category winners from year 1 to year 8 received smaller framed prints of their work.

Organiser Steve Hornby said he thought the standard was higher this year.

He said the judges told him they could see who had been taught photography at school.

"They could see the elements coming through."

Masterton mayor Lyn Patterson attended the evening and congratulated Alexa on her work.WINNERS:
