A foggy start in the upper North Island is due to give way to showers, and it'll pay to keep the umbrella handy at all times.
MetService meteorologist Hannah Moes said areas of overnight fog in Auckland and the Waikato would be replaced with scrappy cloud and isolated showers.
"That's the story for much of the North Island today," she said.
The brightest spot was on the east coast from Bay of Plenty to Wairarapa where it would be a mostly fine day until a southerly change brings showers and cloud.
Temperatures would remain mild in the mid-teens, including a top of 19C in Napier.
