The father of a British man shot in the head during a hunting trip in south Waikato in December is in the country for the trial of the Danish tourist charged with the shooting.
Bjarne Jensen, 48, will appear today in the High Court at Rotorua charged with careless use of a firearm causing injury.
Ian Purchase said his son, Matthew, 22, was now able to eat a normal diet, stand with minimal assistance and sit up without help. However, his epilepsy had not improved and he was a long way from being able to walk.
The shooting happened on a rabbit hunting expedition.
