A teenager who was accidentally shot in the head while hunting possums and rabbits on a Manawatu farm is "doing really well" in hospital, police say.
The 19-year-old Palmerston North man was accidentally shot by a friend on Friday night while hunting with a group of friends at a farm off Tennant Drive, near Palmerston North.
He had severe head injuries and was transferred to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition yesterday morning.
Detective Dave Wishnowsky told NZPA he had spoken to the hospital this morning.
"He's doing really well. He got through the night well."
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the shooting.
