The 20-year-old Matamata man shot overnight on Thursday is in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency services were called to a Mowbray Rd address in Waharoa shortly after 11pm last Thursday, said detective inspector Karl Thornton.
"A woman had rung 111 to report that her 20-year-old boyfriend had been shot by an offender who then fled the property in a utility vehicle," Mr Thornton said.
The man was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.
He is now in a serious but stable condition, Waikato Hospital confirmed today.
