A man shot in the arm by police in Otaki on Thursday has been charged with use of a firearm against a police officer.
A special court sitting was held at the Hutt Hospital yesterday afternoon for the 28-year-old, following the incident around 1am at an address in Kirk Street, Otaki.
The accused, who also faces a charge of breach of community work, was remanded in custody to reappear in Levin District Court on Wednesday.
He remains under police guard at Hutt Hospital.
A 32-year-old Levin man, who also arrested for obstruction following the incident, will appear in Levin District Court on Thursday.
Detective Inspector Chris Bensemann, Central District field crime manager, said the shooting was being investigated by police and the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA).
