Actor Rob Mokaraka has been sentenced to 400 hours of community work and supervision over an incident at his Pt Chevalier home in July last year.
Mokaraka pleaded guilty in April to two charges of assault with a weapon and two charges of threatening to kill causing grievous bodily harm.
The incident had ended when he was shot in the chest.
In the Auckland District Court today, Judge Mary Beth Sharp said Mokaraka was "a fine actor with a great number of acting roles to his credit".
The judge said there was no point in sentencing him to prison when he had given so much to the community.
Crown solicitor Simon Moore said Mokaraka "was psychologically desperate at the time of the shooting, but had confronted his personal demons and was genuinely remorseful".
