An armed robber slashed a Porirua shop attendant's hand with a knife before fleeing with the cash register last night.
Police said the man demanded money from the attendant at the Astrolabe Dairy on Astrolabe St, Cannons Creek, about 8.20pm.
The offender then slashed at the attendant with the knife, cutting their hand, before cutting the cable to the cash register. The man then grabbed the cash register and ran from the shop.
The victim was taken to Hutt Hospital for treatment.
Police have described the offender as a chubby, dark-skinned man, about 30 to 40 years' old, standing about 1.65m to 1.75m tall.
