Police are looking for a possible witness who arrived at the scene of a shooting in Central Hawkes Bay last week soon after it happened.
A man was shot by police on State Highway 2 near Otane on Wednesday night last week.
He remains in Christchurch Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Detective Inspector Paul Basham said police wanted to speak to a woman stopped by police shortly after the incident.
The Maori woman was the only person in the white sedan, which was travelling north.
