A man who suffered a serious eye injury when shot in the face at his Glen Eden home yesterday had a molotov cocktail thrown through his car window days earlier.
The 30-year-old was one of two people treated for gunshot wounds after the shooting in Woodglen Rd yesterday morning.
He was rushed to Auckland City Hospital with facial injuries, including a serious eye wound, and was in a stable condition last night.
About half an hour after the first victim arrived at hospital a 35-year-old man turned up at Waitakere Hospital, also suffering from gunshot injuries to his upper body.
The second victim had been in the house at the time of the shooting but left before police arrived.
It is believed he was driven to hospital by a friend or relative and was last night under a police guard.
Woodglen Rd residents described calling police after hearing up to three gunshots coming from the house where the first victim lived.
Tony Towler said he was watching a movie when he heard the shots and went to investigate about 11.30am.
"I heard someone shouting and saying someone had been shot in the face. [The injured man] didn't look very healthy. A girl said he had all these pockmarks all over his face [from the shot]".
Liam Tomlinson, 16, said he went outside after hearing a gunshot to see his neighbour bleeding from the face.
"I heard the bang and then the lady going 'That guy just got shot'.
"I saw the guy and he had blood on his face and then he walked inside. He was holding his head."
When the St John Ambulance arrived the man was conscious and able to walk to the ambulance, still holding his head.
"I feel pretty bad because he's a really nice guy. I'm a bit shaken up."
Liam said he had heard that his neighbour was talking to two men shortly before he was shot in the face.
Another neighbour said she saw a white car parked across a driveway in the minutes before the shooting but it took off again soon after.
Police said they were searching for a white Falcon seen leaving the address with three men in it.
The men were considered suspects.
It was not clear if the second victim who arrived at Waitakere Hospital was one of the suspects.
Residents said the shooting followed an incident at the house on Sunday when a car belonging to the 30-year-old victim was partially burned out.
The fire started after a molotov cocktail was thrown through the window and was reportedly "something to do with drugs".
Yesterday the burned Mitsubishi was still sitting in the backyard of the house, while police combed the scene for evidence.
The driveway to the house was cordoned off and no one, including family, were allowed inside.
At one stage, a woman, a young girl and baby boy tried to pull into the driveway.
The woman, who is believed to be the victim's partner, told police she lived there but was still not allowed in. She parked nearby before being taken to Henderson police station with the children.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Henderson CIB.
