KEY POINTS:
You could be forgiven for thinking the summer is over this weekend, with some dismal weather in parts of the country.
MetService weather forecaster Bob McDavitt says a depression between Christchurch and the Chatham Islands is expected to deepen this morning.
It will bring rain and strong cold southerlies to most of the eastern South Island, moving to Wellington later in the day.
Heavy showers with isolated thunderstorms and hail will strike most of the North Island.
Mr McDavitt says an anti-cyclone is due late tomorrow, which should bring back warmer weather.
