A young Bay of Plenty family have been spending their weekend dreaming of ways to spend their Lotto Powerball windfall.
New Zealand Lotteries chief executive Todd McLeay said the family, who took home over $13 million, wished to remain anonymous,
"We had never added Powerball to our Lotto ticket before, but thought `what the heck' when we saw the jackpot was so high," the family said.
They checked their ticket during the live Lotto draw on Saturday.
"My husband gasped, I think I've got four numbers, then he realised we had six!
"We waited patiently for the Powerball number and I said I bet it's going to be a number three.
"Then out pops the number three," the wife said.
"I normally check our Lotto tickets but this time my husband took our ticket off me and checked it himself. It must have been his good luck," she said.
The family were yet to decide what do with their new fortune but said that they knew they have some serious thinking to do.
"It's so much money, you have no idea how amazing this is for us," they said.
"We can't wait. Just knowing we are going to be set up for the rest of our lives is the best feeling."
The winning ticket was sold at Bureta Superette in Tauranga and was worth a total of $13,330,960 which was made up of $12,921,763 million from Powerball First Division and $409,197 from Lotto First Division.
Mr McLeay said the win was the fourth highest Powerball win.
Store owner Balvir Singh told NZPA he had sold other winning tickets.
In May last year a customer claimed a first division prize worth $330,000.
"Sales picked up after the first division win so maybe they will again," he said.
