Detectives baffled by the identity of a body washed up on Ninety Mile Beach a week ago yesterday released photos of his clothing.
Despite following a host of leads, Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said police are no closer to identifying the man.
He matched no entries on the national missing persons' register and a post-mortem examination was unable to help because of the condition of the body.
Fingerprints didn't match any on the police national database.
The pathologist said the man was aged 20 to 40, and had probably been in the water for at least a week.
Johnston said the pathologist noted the man's perfect, straight, white teeth. They indicated he probably lived "somewhere more well-off, somewhere where there might be fluoride in the water".
The man was wearing designer "Pepe Jeans" in a size 36 waist and 34 leg with a two-pronged canvas webbing belt.
His shirt was an XL from the Match brand available at The Warehouse. He was wearing one new adidas Bounce sneaker in a size US 10.
He had dark, semi-curly, shoulder-length hair, was 172cm tall and weighed 70kg.
Anyone with information should contact Kaitaia police on (09) 408 6500.
