National Party leader Jenny Shipley denies she obtained information about the People's Bank illegally.
New Zealand Post is threatening legal action against Mrs Shipley for leaking confidential business documents on the proposed Kiwi bank.
She says she did not solicit the information she has received, but with $80 million in taxpayers' money needed to set up the bank, the public has a right to know all the details.
Mrs Shipley says New Zealand Post Chairman Ross Armstrong and Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton are withholding critical information from the public.
She says people have a right to know the full story and customers need to be sure their money is safe.
