Work is about to start on the planting of a shelterbelt on Daleton Farm, next to the wastewater plant in Carterton.
According to a report to Carterton District Council, the shelterbelt is designed to "intercept potential spray drift and provide visual amenity as part of a wider planting and landscaping programme for the site that will ultimately link and complement the Mangatarere Restoration project".
The planting will consist of a row of "sacrificial" pine trees as a temporary screen upwind of a screen of natives.
The wider wastewater scheme is to discharge most of the waste to nearby land.
Carterton District Council is in the process of getting recommendations from suppliers for upgraded UV equipment [ultraviolet light to treat the wastewater].
