KEY POINTS:
Shell has matched Gull service stations in offering a cut of 5c per litre in prices until 7pm today.
Dave Bodge, general manager of Gull, which operates 30 stations in the North Island, said it was "pleased to lead the New Zealand market in delivering lower petrol and diesel prices".
Gull, which was founded in 1976, often manages to force down the large companies' prices by cutting its own.
Shell followed the initiative this morning.
