The price of petrol dropped 3 cents a litre today.
Shell said it had cut the price of 91 octane to 165.9c per litre and higher octane to 171.9c per litre at 2pm.
Shell communications advisor Kylie Reeves said today's price drop reflected a stabilising New Zealand dollar and a decrease in the cost of product.
BP also dropped its petrol price by 3 cents. Spokeswoman Diana Stretch said the cut was because of a decrease in the cost of refined petrol, which was further helped by a higher New Zealand dollar.
There was no change in the price of diesel.
