Labour leader David Shearer will address a New Zealand-Australia partnership forum in Sydney this afternoon.
He plans to talk about where the relationship between our countries should go to from here and stress the importance of New Zealand's economic sovereignty.
Last night he met with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard officially for the first time, where amongst other things they discussed the reform of their respective Labour parties.
"In New Zealand the Labour party's going through a reform and trying to modernise and open up the party much more, and make it more relevant to New Zealanders. That's exactly the same thing that's happening in Australia as well."
A number of government ministers are also in attendance at the forum in Sydney.
