Shearer sets new mark

Far North shearer Matthew Smith has broken the world eight-hour ewe-shearing record.

Working in a remote shed northwest of Napier, Smith sheared 578 ewes, beating the previous mark of 560.

Te Kuiti shearer Stacey Te Huia is making a challenge next week, hoping to be the first to shear 600 ewes in eight hours.
