Canterbury cricket coach Michael Sharpe has not lost faith in his top order batsmen despite another alarming collapse at Hagley Oval yesterday when Auckland beat his team by an innings and 60 runs.
Trailing by 185 runs after dismissing Auckland for 296, Canterbury were soon in trouble for the third time in as many innings this season.
When the seventh wicket fell at 53 it was inevitable the scheduled four-day State Championship match would not even go half the distance.
Canterbury were eventually dismissed for 125 in their second innings, a slight improvement on the 111 yesterday but of no consolation to Sharpe.
"We still have faith in the team. We have talked about what should be done in such situations, to not try and change, not go searching, but to trust in the things they have done well in the past," Sharpe said.
The statistics are grim. In two innings against Auckland the highest score by any of Canterbury's top seven batsmen was 17.-NZPA
