It wasn't just swimmers on show during a stunning summer's day at Papamoa Beach yesterday. Two sharks, believed to be bronze whalers, also made their presence felt at the popular Bay of Plenty holiday spot, causing several swimmers to make a quick dash to shore.
Locals Summer Wilson and Isaac Chase believed the sharks to be 2m-3m in length. "The sharks were flapping their tails in the waves and splashing around. They were probably there for 10 minutes," Wilson said.

Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club lifeguards watched the sharks through binoculars until they went back out to sea.
Much of the North Island was bathed in sunshine yesterday, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s. And holidaymakers returning to work will do it hard this week - fine weather is forecast for most of the North Island in the coming days.
