Sharks added to quota management species

The Big Game Fishing Council has welcomed the addition of sharks to the quota management species.

Regional representative Sheryl Hart said there was some concern about shark numbers, though exactly what was happening with the population was not clear.

"It's hard to say, but there's now information to say that sharks don't breed until they are very large," she said.

"That's a problem we need to keep in mind."
