KEY POINTS:
The decomposing remains of a shark were pulled from a culvert at Milford Sound, after a bad smell was reported.
The 1m shark was identified as either a seal or black shark, deepwater species living in depths of 200m to 500m.
The culvert, which was next to the staff car park, was used to drain water from the mountains to the harbour, and during periods of high rainfall was often full.
