A shark thought to be up to three metres long has been spotted at Waikanae Beach, 20km north of Porirua, this evening.
Police have received numerous calls about the shark since about 6pm from people who saw the shark swimming toward the northern end of the beach.
The beach was cleared of people from the water following the sighting.
