A former member of the Masterton-based Giants Softball Club is making big waves across the Tasman.
Ryan Shannahan has been included in the 30-strong Australia Steelers open men's squad which will go through an intensive build-up for the 2013 world championships.
Shannahan, a versatile player who usually fills either the shortstop or outfield role, is now resident in Melbourne and is part of the Victorian state side.Meanwhile, another former high-profile Wairarapa sporting personality, Elizabeth Perry, has been included among 28 players in a New Zealand women's cricket squad to prepare for the Twenty20 world championships in Sri Lanka in October and September.
