A shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake has struck the Bay of Plenty this morning, GNS Science said.
The quake struck at 11.50am, 10km northwest of Matata and 20km northwest of Edgecumbe, at a depth of only 2km.
GNS Science had reports it was felt across the Bay of Plenty, from Apata in the west and Whakatane in the east.
The Bay of Plenty Times had reports it was felt in Tauriko, Pyes Pa and Welcome Bay.
